At a glance: What is going on in the Kaizers universe right now?

Kaizers Orchestra are history. On September 14, 2013, they played their last concert. Currently there are no plans about if and when they will be back. The band members expect a break for "many years", and they don't know if and - if yes - how they will continue after that break.

Violeta trilogy: The trilogy "Violeta Violeta - a romantic tragedy by Kaizers Orchestra" was completed with the release of Vol. III. In December 2013, a vinyl box containing all three LPs, a single with two additional songs, and a photo book was released. Story and lyrics ...

"Siste Dans" DVD: On September 14, 2014, Kaizers Orchestra released a DVD and BluRay of the last Kaizers concert, which took place on September 14, 2013, in Stavanger. As a bonus, the DVD contains the TV Vest documentary series "Siste Dans". The DVD/BluRay is available through kaizers.no and Norwegian record shops.

Accidental Rock Star: On March 13, 2015, the documentary "Den tilfeldige rockestjerne" (The accidental rock star) premiered in Norwegian cinemas. You can watch the movie online on Vimeo or buy the DVD (here if you live abroad, here if you live in Norway). The film focusses on Helge "Omen" Kaizer - the rock star who never really wanted to become a rock star but ended up in the band by accident. Information | Website | Trailer

Sorry for the delay - but now the lyrics & translation of Janove's new single "Våpen" are finally online. At the same time, Skambankt released two new songs - check out the music videos and of course also the lyrics and translations on skambankt.konzertjunkie.com.

By now, more and more festival dates are published, both for Janove and Skambankt - you can find a current overview here.

Janove's new single "Hengtmann" is out now! You can check out the translation of the lyrics here - thanks a lot to Lena for great help! Janove is also heading out on another club tour - see the tour dates.

But there's quite a bit more interesting music out there at the moment than "only" Janove solo. Anybody interested in musicals? =:-)
  • Musical number one is "Det tusende hjertet" in Stavanger, written by Tore Renberg with music by Janove Ottesen. The musical actually premiered in 2007, but it's back this year! You can find more information and the link to buy tickets here - and even though the musical is targeted towards kids, it's surely a lot of fun for everyone. I only know the music, and the songs are awesome!
  • In case you prefer high literature to a kids' musical, you should travel to Kristiansand instead! There you can see "Sult1", a musical loosely based on Knut Hamsun's novel Sult ("Hunger"). But in a modern hip hop version about the hunger for clicks, likes, and attention - so maybe not sooo high literature after all. ;-) And what does that have to do with Kaizers? Well: Geir Zahl is responsible for the underlying music! More information is available here, and you can get tickets here. "Sult1" will premiere on November 10.
  • And last but not least, as a little reward for everyone who's still reading, here's some information about THE musical we're all waiting for! Janove and Geir are diligently working to make the Kaizers musical happen, and there's quite a bit of progress to report!
Of course, it's all still work in progress, but the first act is already done, and they composed new music for some of the scenes. The current estimate is to have the full musical finished at least on paper about half a year from now. To achieve that, Janove and Geir are working with some people who know the business inside out: playwright Christian Siméon, director Ladislas Chollat, and Michael Gregorio, a well-known French actor who will play the role of the devil.
All in all, the artistic/creative process is going very well and everything looks great. But of course, there's a bit more uncertainty about the practical setup. When it comes to investors and financing, Janove and Geir can surely have some input, but they won't be the ones that take all decisions, so all predictions have to be taken with a grain of salt. But currently, everything looks really positive! So let's cross our fingers that the musical can premiere in the ambitious way they are planning: namely as a big-time show in Paris in the fall of 2019!
Yes, in Paris. Which means: in French. So what are you waiting for? We have two years to learn French!

New music on the way! =:-D No, unfortunately no new Kaizers music, but early next year our stereos will still be busy!

First up is Janove with a new solo album. He did not sit back and rest after "Artisten & Marlene" was released, but kept making new songs all year. Which means that his new album is pretty much in the box already, and it's scheduled to be released in January of 2018. And the first single is just around the corner! Currently, Janove is playing hangman with himself (okay, with the help of all his fans =;-) ) to reveal the title of the song. Follow him on Facebook to join the game! And if you don't want to wait so long, go see him on tour in October and November!

But Janove isn't the only one with new music coming up! Skambankt just finished mixing their new album "Horisonten brenner" ("The horizon is burning"), which is scheduled for release in late January/early February. And talking of Janove: Guess who produced this album? =;-) According to Janove, "Horisonten brenner" will be "loud, hard, and beautiful", or, as Terje puts it, the album will have both hard and softer songs, but all in typical Skambankt fashion - "those who've heard it say that this is the best record we have ever made". You can check out a short live clip of the title song here, and soon we'll get to hear the first single of the album! It is called "Fremmed i en fremmed verden" ("Stranger in a strange world"), and Skambankt filmed the video for the single last weekend. Also Skambankt will be out on tour again, but we'll have to wait until the album is out. The tour is planned for February and March, and of course we'll get to see them at festivals next summer!
