Og alt me har sammen frå då er minner ...
We all have lots of memories about and with Kaizers Orchestra. During last year's Quizmas calendar, many of you sent me their favorite memories - and I found it so touching to read about all those different events, moments, and thoughts that I definitely want to share them with you.Starting on September 14, 2015, and for a full year, you will get to read a new memory here twice a week. Thanks so much to everyone who sent in their stories, and I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I did!
Among many wonderful memories involving KO, one of the best concerns the moment when we were all waiting for The End.
In the late summer of 2013 I received a frantic message from my Kaizer-godmother, i.e. the friend who introduced me to their music. The crew of the Accidental Rock Star is coming to Poland to shoot and they are bringing all the gentlemen along! And they need some volunteer crowd, preferably equipped with some fan gear! I already knew I wouldn’t be attending The Last Dance, so I threw myself at the chance to meet the band and do ANYTHING to do with them when it’s still possible.
And one rainy morning I met few other lovely people, who all travelled quite a lot to do exactly the same. We didn’t know each other, but we shared the love of the band, the excitement and the secret knowledge that it would be one of the most memorable days of our lives. We were taken to the old paper factory outside Warsaw, now serving mostly as a film set for various wartime productions. We were immediately intercepted by the wardrobe and makeup department and soon instead of wearing our band t-shirts – we started to resemble characters from “Underground”. Thus prepared – or rather not prepared at all, I stepped onto the set… and was immediately transported to the world of resistance and catastrophe, underground bunkers and the feast on the edge of the apocalypse. The accuracy of it all was uncanny and so much better than any of us, Kaizerfans, could have imagined. The most peculiar thing, though, was that most of the actors and extras (those not involved in Kickstarter, of course) had very little or no idea about the band, the film, the story. Some didn’t even know that it was a real band, not something conceived for the movie! So we had our moment of glory as (overenthusiastic) experts, giving extra backstory, explaining details, exchanging and sharing our previous KO memories (; Unfortunately, that day only Omen and Jackal were present on the set, but those short moments in between shots were worth probably as much as the rest of the already wonderful experience. And just thinking about how many times I heard “what a shame you weren’t here yesterday, we were shooting a concert” is bound to reduce me to tears.
But then I remember all the wonderful people and hard work they put into making one of my favourite imagiery real… I saw the magic happen. I like to think I had a small part in it. And that’s more than enough.
All in all the day was marvellous beyond compare, probably as chaotic as this account, and it doesn’t matter if I’ll be able to catch a glimpse of myself of any of my newfound friends when we will finally see the movie – at this point even the title brings a flood of delightful memories and makes me believe that yes, there just may be life after Kaizers (:
